As soon as this guy exploded out of nowhere I was warning people to be cautious and that received some angry feedback and then when the guy started with the "diversity is our greatest strength" stuff, I pointed it out again. In most cases I see this as potentially a form of "ketman" as described in The Captive Mind. When it's obvious you're not a liberal, but your career demands that you gain their approval, you might find yourself saying this to throw people off your scent. Centrists are eccentric and can maybe be won over and therefore tolerated in some organizations, but anyone right of center is irredeemable. And honestly, if it gets you into positions of authority to slightly shift the conversation rightward it may be worth sucking it up and just going for it
Chris Pratt is obviously a conservative, and he has to say this exact kind of stuff too so that he can keep acting in blockbuster movies instead of being relegated to Mel Gibson and Zahler films only (who are great but are effectively quarantined from pop culture)
